Building learning environments in the family-school collaboration. Interview with Ramon Moix<\/h2><\/h2><\/div>

Current research emphasizes how students learn not only in our schools but throughout their environment and who are the key contributors. As part of the OECD’s Innovative Learning Environments project, the following has been published The Nature of Learning: using research to inspire practice<\/a>,<\/span><\/span> which in its chapter eleven focuses on the effects of the family on children’s learning and socialization.<\/p>\n

One of the blocks envisioned for building innovative learning environments is the one that focuses on family-school collaboration:<\/p>\n

The home is our primary and highly influential learning environment, so making connections between home and school is vital to student success. It involves proactively involving families in their children’s schooling and personally inviting them to participate. Extracurricular and after-school activities are also ways to connect with the family and create a closer link between home and school.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We are facing a challenge that was also echoed in the study Personalization, a model for quality education in the 21st century. <\/a><\/span>\u00a0One of its conclusions highlights school-family collaboration and states that:<\/p>\n

The family participates actively in the formation and decision making of their children in collaboration with the teachers. They have the responsibility to cooperate with the school so that it has richer information about the student’s profile and to provide their children with moments, experiences and guidance in certain aspects that may require individual learning, both to work on difficulties and to stimulate strengths. Parents can participate in the organization of school events: cultural, recreational, social or academic.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We talked about all this with Ramon Moix i Segura<\/strong>, an expert in family and school issues, to explore how to put into practice what various studies have shown. The conversation with him goes smoothly: he is a teacher and makes himself heard. He is a teacher and makes himself heard. As soon as the interview begins and before I ask him any questions he states:<\/p>\n

What is family education?<\/h5>\n

Family education is a tool, a process, that helps to improve the dialogue between the couple to be able to make a quality family project, thinking about the happiness of our children and ourselves.<\/p>\n

Is the current family in good health?<\/h5>\n

What we have is a lot of love for our children, and it can happen that we overdo it. This has repercussions that affect their personal growth and we unwittingly devote ourselves to educate their own immaturity in three details:<\/p>\n
